Read our review of the PRO Advanced Toolbox. If we’re being really picky, a flat-blade screwdriver would be nice too, but overall, there’s little to criticise with this excellent kit. Ideally, it’d include a complete Torx set (it has T20, T25 and T30 wrenches) and a 1.5mm Allen key. The custom-cut foam inlay keeps the tools firmly in place, while the metal clasps on the carry case are robust and secure. Quick-link pliers are a handy addition to the set. The Allen keys have a precise fit and both the cassette tool and chain tool are 12-speed compatible. ![]() Rubberised handles give great grip and enhance usability. The PRO Advanced Toolbox has 25 tools that are well-made, a decent weight and feel like they’ll endure the test of time, as you’d expect of PRO (Shimano’s in-house parts brand). Best bike tool kits in 2023 PRO Advanced Toolbox Shimano Hollwtech II tools also fit a wide variety of BBs from different brands and often work with adaptors for other standards. Shimano Hollowtech II is arguably the gold standard with many brands opting to use it for external bearing and threaded bottom brackets. There is a wide variety of BB tools available due to the numerous bottom bracket standards out there and the different ways of installing and removing a bottom bracket, so making sure you have the right tool for the bottom bracket on your bike is a must. Bottom bracket toolĪ bottom bracket (BB) tool helps you remove or install a bottom bracket into the bottom bracket shell of a bike. SRAM, Campagnolo and Shimano all use different standards for these. You will also need a splined cassette lockring tool if you want to remove your cassette for replacement or cleaning. For instance, is it suitable for 11-speed chains? It is also used to remove the cog from a fixed-wheel bike.Ī good chain whip will have a decent length handle that will help you gain some mechanical leverage and make light work of removing a lockring.Ĭheck that the chain whip is compatible with the width of the chain that you run on your bike. Chain whip and cassette lockring toolĪ chain whip holds the cassette in place and stops the freehub from spinning when removing the lockring of a cassette. You can even use it to take out a link and put a speed-link in to make removal/cleaning even easier. Use it to repair stiff links and to take your chain off for serious cleaning and so prolong the life of your chain and parts. At the end of the year, the taxes are paid to the government on the homeowners' behalf. Consider the cost of property taxesĪ monthly mortgage payment will often include property taxes, which are collected by the lender and then put into a specific account, commonly called an escrow or impound account. You also may pay a different type of mortgage insurance if you have another mortgage, such as an FHA mortgage. Oftentimes, PMI can be waived once the homeowner reaches 20% equity in the home. The exact cost will be detailed in your loan estimate, but PMI typically costs between 0.2% and 2% of your mortgage principal. Private mortgage insurance (PMI) is required if you put down less than 20% of the purchase price when you get a conventional mortgage, or what you probably think of as a "regular mortgage." Most commonly, your PMI premium will be added to your monthly mortgage payments by the lender. Find out whether you need private mortgage insurance Again, you only need these more specific figures if you're plugging the numbers into the formula - an online calculator will do the math itself once you select your loan type from the list of options. To get the number of monthly payments you're expected to make, multiply the number of years by 12 (number of months in a year).Ī 30-year mortgage would require 360 monthly payments, while a 15-year mortgage would require exactly half that number of monthly payments, or 180. The most common terms for a fixed-rate mortgage are 30 years and 15 years. For example, if the annual interest rate is 4%, the monthly interest rate would be 0.33% (0.04/12 = 0.0033). If you want to do the monthly mortgage payment calculation by hand, you'll need the monthly interest rate - just divide the annual interest rate by 12 (the number of months in a year). Lenders provide an annual interest rate for mortgages. Typically, a buyer with a high credit score, high down payment, and low debt-to-income ratio will secure a lower interest rate - the risk of loaning that person money is lower than it would be for someone with a less stable financial situation. The interest rate is essentially the fee a bank charges you to borrow money, expressed as a percentage. Read more: The average monthly mortgage payment by state, city, and year 2. (To learn more about how this process works, check out an example amortization schedule.) With each monthly mortgage payment, more money will go toward your principal, and less will go toward paying interest. If you have a fixed-rate mortgage, you'll pay the same amount each month. ![]() The initial loan amount is referred to as the mortgage principal.įor example, someone with $100,000 cash can make a 20% down payment on a $500,000 home, but will need to borrow $400,000 from the bank to complete the purchase. It's possible to estimate your total monthly payment by hand using a standard formula, but it's often easier to use an online mortgage calculator. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Kennedy wrote to her personal shopper at Bergdorf Goodman to say that while she was First Lady she intended to name the store her official clothier. Jacqueline Kennedy was destined to have a greater influence on the fashion world than any other woman in American history-and she would have a Halston hat on her head while doing so. He was probably the greatest hatmaker in the world, an absolute magician with his hands.”īut it took Jacqueline Kennedy and the pillbox hat to make him into an international star. Once, he made twelve snoods in the twinkling of an eye. “I’d say to him, ‘I had a dream about a hat last night,’ ” said Vreeland, “and I’d go about describing it, and then, by God, he’d give it to me line for line. “Halston learned a great deal from Charles James about designing and the world of style and society,” said Lilly Daché, “and probably other things too.”īy the early sixties, after Halston left Daché to work at Bergdorf Goodman, he was blessed with the admiration of perhaps the single most powerful press person in the fashion world, Diana Vreeland, the legendary editor of Harper’s Bazaar and Vogue. When he was sober and functioning, however, he was enormous fun, knowledgeable and unpredictable. James’s favorite flowers were orchids orchids would become not only Halston’s favorite flower but his trademark bloom.īy the time the two men became friends in New York, James was living in a rented studio apartment in the Chelsea Hotel with a beagle he kept on a leash tied to the doorknob, and if he was drunk or stoned, he might answer the door in his underwear. James’s favorite champagne was Moët & Chandon it became Halston’s favorite. For a long period they had dinner two or three nights a week, and James became a confidant and mentor to the young milliner. He was, most of all, an artiste, and Halston was enthralled by him. Balenciaga called him “the greatest couturier in the world,” and he was one of the few designers to elevate fashion into fine art. He would spend several months and $20,000 just to get the sleeve on a dress to hang the way he wanted it to. James viewed his dresses in the same way a great painter or sculptor would look upon his work. Perhaps his single most famous dress was called “the Four-Leaf Clover,” with four distinct “petals,” designed for Austine Hearst in 1953. There was a fantastical quality to his visions, and in his entire career he produced only two hundred designs. James had gone on to become one of the great masters of the ball gown. Born in England, he had been sent to America by his family to become a businessman, but instead he began a fashion career in Chicago as a milliner-just like Halston. James was a small man with thinning hair that he dyed shoe-polish black, two thin slashes of dyed eyebrows, and the features of a ventriloquist’s dummy. He also became a profound- and prophetic-influence on the young designer. James introduced Halston to many important social and business contacts. James was then fifty and, for Halston, the Leonardo da Vinci of dressmaking. He had been invited to work for the well-known milliner Lilly Daché, but from the moment he arrived in Manhattan the person he sought out was the designer Charles James. He was twenty-six, with a small reputation he had earned in Chicago as a hat designer in his older lover’s hairstyling salon. The man who called himself simply Halston was as complicated and contradictory as the forces that shaped him. Before he died of AIDS in March 1990, he had lost control of his business and fallen from the social heights, but he remained almost mythic. For two decades he was also the king of New York nightlife, a dramatic and compelling figure always dressed in black, his posture regally erect, his piercing green eyes hidden by mirrored sunglasses. Born Roy Halston Frowick in Des Moines, Iowa, he became an international legend. ![]() Perhaps the greatest American fashion designer who ever drew a breath, Halston dressed the best of them. ‘You’re only as good as the people you dress.” That was Halston’s favorite truism. ![]() ![]() ![]() Kids’ Skechers shoes have as much personality as they do, featuring fun styles like light-ups, emojis, blinged-out and more.ĭon’t forget to explore our selection of men’s Skechers shoes as well. The PlayStation 2 was Sony's main console for well over 6 years. I agree with what everyone else has said about software emulation, but I'll add that writing a game console emulator is very different from other emulation undertakings. Sony probably had to start up an entire team devoted to emulating the PS2 in software, and again it probably wasn't worth the return on investment so they shut it down. Not to mention that the bus system (how the chips are laid out and connected) is very different between the two systems. ![]() While certainly more deterministic than human-language translation, this is still a hard problem to solve especially when you only have the limited resources of a console (emulation often requires about 5x better hardware than the system being emulated did). As Shaun said, the reason it's hard is because the PS2 had different processors than the PS3, meaning everything had to be "translated" from PS2 instructions to PS3 instructions. ![]() Emulation is hard, especially for a sophisticated console like the PS2. And if it had, it wouldn't have increased PS3 game sales very much - and Sony wouldn't make any more money than they already had on the PS2 games people owned. This was probably a losing investment for them, since the PS2 part wasn't the main attraction it probably didn't increase PS3 sales very much. Basically Sony was having to pay for PS2 and PS3 hardware in manufacturing, and then selling it at the PS3's price. In addition to Shaun's very good answer, consider the cost of emulation.įirst, the PS3's with the extra hardware for running PS2 games. While the first PS2 models incorporated hardware of the PS1 (like its CPU), later PS2 models completely emulated the PS1 via software (and were thinner). In 2000, Sony bought a Playstation emulator called Virtual Game Station. PS1, being a system simpler and older than the PS2, is easier to emulate using only software. They also have a compatibility tool that you can use to see if specific games can play on those specific models. Sony has a knowledgebase article that explains which three versions can play PS2 games. Models since the MSG:IV bundle had neither the CPU nor the software emulation of the CPU required to play older games. ![]() It can still play most PS2 games, but support isn't as good as the earlier models with the actual EE CPU. The 80GB Metal Gear Solid IV bundle had the GPU as well, but replaced the Emotion Engine chip with software emulation of the chip. These models can play almost all PS2 games. This CPU/GPU combo was put in all PS2 units and in the first variants of the PS3 (the NTSC 20GB and 60GB models) to make them backward-compatible. PS2 games were created to work on Sony's Emotion Engine CPU and their Graphics Synthesizer GPU. They cannot run on the CPU designed for the PS3. ![]() ![]() By GlobalDataĭon’t miss out on key market insights that can help optimize your next investment – read the report now. And now, Erskine and Konkle, a pair of drama school graduates whose names sound more like a law firm in Queens than ascendant comedy stars, are on the verge of becoming popular. Specifically, the ones from the Lonely Island, who signed on to produce PEN15. And how, by sticking together and staying true to themselves, they were able to forge a unique and exciting sensibility, one that eventually attracted the attention of the popular boys.
